Cushioned, springy, durable, fast!
I was involved with testing of the prototypes and have fallen in love with the extremely cushioned, yet resilient feel of the shoe. This, combined with the stiffness that the carbon plate adds has made this my go-to workout and race shoe for the last 10 months. Compared with traditional racing/training flats, these shoes minimize the harsh feel of the road, and let you focus on the task at hand, running fast. I generally use these shoes for interval workouts, tempos, and racing.
The shoe has changed somewhat from the original model. The heel cup and cushioning is dramatically improved and the fit is much more comfortable in this edition. I have tested 3 pairs of the FuelCell TC, with over 1200km between them, and one of my favourite things about the shoes is the durability. My most used pair has a little over 700k and the most 'wear' on the shoe is where I toe-off. The outsole is very durable and the stiffness of the carbon plate is still intact after lots of use. The shoe is slightly heavier than a traditional racing flat, which is probably in part due to the durable build. I am a heel-striker and I find that the cushion in the rear of the shoe really helps in longer runs and in the late stages of races. Racing-wise, I've done several half marathons, 1 marathon, and multiple other road and track races in these (PBs across all events, 5K to marathon).
Overall, this is a great shoe with upside both in training and racing. My legs feel better after long efforts and I think…
