The new FuelCell line features the highest rebound properties of any New Balance performance foam to date. The goal here is to make your fastest time even faster, but how? The FuelCell platform features 2 speed shoes:
The Rebel - This is a speed shoe for the every-day runner. Now Available
The 5280 - A short distance speed shoe without spikes (Coming Soon)
The 5280 certainly isn’t suited to most runners and is more for milers and elite 5km specialists , the Rebel however, is made for the everyday runner who wants to go fast. Featuring FuelCell technology in the forefoot to create a high-rebound, but lightweight running experience. The Rebel is probably the most pure form of the 5280 in the NB FuelCell line. It takes a lot of the learnings of the launch angle, the landing and the traction pattern and brings it to a much more accessible running shoe. It features the FuelCell in the forefoot and then it’s cradled with a much lighter weight, firmer foam. The idea with this shoe is to take as much weight out of it as possible. It’s great for up-tempo workout days, and also an excellent shoe for any race day.
A study in 2015 found that runners using more than one pair of shoes during the same training cycle reduced their risk of injury by 39% compared to runners using only one pair. The researchers concluded that using multiple shoes alternates the forces applied to the body while running. In other words, switching up your shoes varies the forces your body must absorb, and this can go a long way to helping prevent injury.
